Project Overview
This project involved converting a typical unfinished basement into a modern, functional, and visually appealing living space using a semi-gloss polished concrete finish. Unlike high-gloss commercial floors, a semi-gloss finish for residential basements offers subtle elegance, balancing light reflection with a warm, home-friendly look.
The homeowner wanted a flooring solution that would withstand moisture, handle occasional spills, and remain low-maintenance while giving the basement a contemporary, polished aesthetic. Polished concrete was the ideal choice – durable, long-lasting, and versatile.
Step 1: Thorough Assessment & Surface Prep
Before any polishing began, our team conducted a detailed assessment of the basement slab. We checked for cracks, uneven areas, moisture content, and surface contaminants. Basements often have hidden issues such as hairline cracks, minor settlement, or old coatings that need attention.
Key preparation steps included:
